From the Desk of FurDU Crew
Post con-hibernation has come to an end and we've excitedly getting prepared for next year with negotiations for hotels, events and even a rough schedule starting to take shape. Things will still be quiet on this front for a while whilst we gear up with our website and using your feedback, build FurDU into bigger and better things.
We'd like to take this opportunity to promote our sister con: RivFUR which is rapidly approaching (August 8th-10th). There are some pretty cool things on the horizon and plenty of information can be found at www.Rivfur.com
Now onto the business end of this post.
We super apreciate your feedback and actively looking to improve the con the best way we can. Here are a few things we are taking in from the feedback form.
** Not everyone uses facebook or checks it all the time, and for those who don't there was no central location that housed updates and information. We'll be adding an OPT-IN email update, which will be used only for important notices which would usually be broadcasted on facebook in regards to the hotel.
** Dealers den will see a rework, we are attempting to locate space so it can be hosted in it's own lockable room, folks don't have to pack down each night and can set up on the friday. With consideration of the feedback we were provided, the hours for dealers will be 11-4 and tablespace will be signficantly more generous.
** We're also reworking our fursuit events, notable changes to the way we do photoshoots, fursuit games, fursuit dance comp and allocating more time and resources to fursuit based events.
** External events will see a rework to freshen up some stale ones and clear signage, indication and notice/direction for external events will help clear up the feedback that information was sometimes unclear. We hope to recruit a external event voulenteer in the new year.
A few things we can't change
** No Room Party Policy: We have contacted every hotel in the gold coast and have heard the same song, the strict no-room party policy is pretty much universal amongst the entire gold coast strip. When-ever FurDU ends up this year, the hosting hotel will have a policy just as strict.
** Lift service: We feel confident that the lifts were fast enough with almost all of the feedback felt it was average or better. But in regards to them being out of order for some duration of the con: Sadly a hotel guest was pilfering the light fittings in the lifts, leaving exposed wires and causing lifts to be shut down throughout the con. We sincerely hope that it wasn't one of our crowd and that it will not re-occour in 2015.
** Weather and the fursuit walk: We are aware how big of an event this is for folks and as fursuiters ourselves, we are let down with the change of plans due to the rain. Please keep in mind that whilst it might be raining at the time, the ground needs to be of condition where it is safe to walk on to preserve everyones safety and suits. We can't change the weather, but we can change how we handle it... A stronger wet weather plan will be articulated leading up to 2015, keeping everyone informed.
Finally a side note:
Drake: Working scheduling and events I am still trying to absorb the feedback you guys provided. We want everyone to have great time and every year try to find the perfect balance for people who like a structured event but keep the schedule laid back to maintain the partycon atmosphere. I realise we can't please everyone (especially as our con sails over 500 members) , as our individual tastes in furry is almost as diverse as the species within it. At the moment we have a 90% satasfaction rating with events and with continual feedback we can adjust and evolve the convention to cater as best we can for everyone and aim for 100% ^^

Thank you for looking into developing an alternate communications channel for Facebook luddites like myself.
I'm already saving my pennies and I wait with bated breath to see what you have in store for us next year.

2015 memories:

Rain Rain. Friday has the rain.

Lots of accidents on the way their. One directly behind, one opposite way(at the pie shop) and one wreck.

No big balcony.
No big dance stage .
Big bed though.

Lot of street pass.

The art board.

Hungry hungry hippos at the icebreakers.

Dino statues at the charity auction from timezone peoples.

Getting the next book for my review series. (And apparently reading it very fast)

Losing in the first round for both games in the video game tournament.

The show on the Friday night and nearly falling off the chair.

Heard about all that money donated to charity that's awesome, also it was great to see that it stopped raining on the second day for the fursuit walk.
