Watching Furjam grow

Postby Sebastian » Mon Sep 17, 2012 12:31 pm

I wanted to start this thread to say how proud I am to have been able to watch the progress of Furjam. Sadly I wasn't there at the very beginning but I remember my first year (2007 or 2008?) when it was about a dozen of us at the Sydney Botanic Gardens. Due to the rules of the SBG we weren't allowed a barbecue or ball games, but at least Spyrit (Vixen) was able to hug the "Free Hugs" guy who just happened to be walking through the area. I'll bet he was never expecting to be hugged by a wolfox (folf? Soz).

Now Furjam is a phenomenon. We're still smaller than Midfur, but the attendance growth seems to be exponential. There must have been over a hundred of us at Centennial Park. Once upon a time, before the generosity of Stripes Tiger and his tent, we had to change into our fursuits in the toilets of the park kiosk. Now we're so big that even the tent can barely fit us in, and it was the same in the evening at the club! Yet despite our numbers we've shown that as furries we are respectable members of the community and have behaved ourselves, thus quashing the illusion of certain TV show misrepresentations.

Sadly also I was unable to attend either the Friday pub meet or any of the activities on the Sunday, but no doubt everyone had a good time, and that all furs arrived home safely!

Well done to the organisers and all the members of the crew!! :wgrinn:

Yes its amazing how the fandom and the events have grown over the years.

Here are a couple of pics from the early days, the official group photos from FurJAM (Jan 05) and FurJAM Reloaded (Oct 05).

PS - To the Dingo(?) suiter who kept accusing me of being a spy for channel #7, I think you can be pretty assured that I'm a genuine furry. :wp:

(That foxaroo is a spy! LOL I wish there was a furry custom mod for TF2)

[Picture][/quote]First photo looks like the steps of the Opera House and the 2nd looks like it was taken down by The Rocks? Ahhh.... some old familiar faces there.

How come there weren't as many at the meet when I first attended? Did I scare most of the furs away? Sorry about that. :womg:

...and what happened to last year's fursuit group photo?

This year was also my first, and it was good fun. I'll admit it was awkward eating lunch with all boys and me being the only girl on the Friday meet but it was fun. I hope to go to the Saturday meet next year (maybe with my fursuit ready!).

And thanks to those who put up with my IRC spam when I was trying to locate some of you guys XD

This was my second FurJam, but my first full one, and I had an awesome time.

Next time I'll have a platygon in tow.

omg, Cameron von borstel in the first photo! he looks soo different!

I attended only the Friday pub meet this year.
I could not make Saturday or Sunday due to it falling on the same weekend as Defqon.1
Hopefully next year ill be a bit more fortunate with dates!

But from the Friday pub meet, it was amazing. there was allot of turnouts and unexpected visitors this year!
