RivFur 2013

My report on RivFur!

First of all, thanks to those who attended the con, it was great to see you there. I had a wonderful time talking to all the people, even if I wasn't talking to many of the ones there.

The first day wasn't a mess, but it was the most relaxing day because there was a lot of excitement and buzz with just enjoying the simple things about being at a con, meeting the other furs and seeing fursuits slowly come about. I even got to fursuit some of the day, jumping around the place and having fun. I stayed helping until the con closed doors at 11:30, and then some. I then fiddled around and stayed up until something like 2 AM before sleeping. 6 AM, I got up, sneaking out of the room, thanking my lucky stars that I was an energetic guy to be able to handle this.

The second day is when things really started to hit. The con was buzzing with activities from the get go, things were also starting to take their toll on the staff. They worked so hard, and they were finally starting to struggle with the stress of things. Everything worked out really well though, and the volunteers helped quite a bit. I distinctly remember being told to take a break 'or else', as I was helping out almost non-stop from start to finish.
Then there was the laser tag, that was a small nightmare to get to, as people were assuming so many things from the non-brisbane furries, but eventually we made it off to the laser tag using maxi taxis. The laser tag itself was fun and I went on three or more rounds, I lost count. I just wanted to go in fursuiting and having fun, and have fun I did have.
When we tried to leave laser tag, there must have been something big happening, as we ordered taxis at 10:20, and didn't get one until 12:20, (or at least I didn't). Then I spent some time with others at the pancake manor I think until I got back in my room like... 3 AM. Then I stayed up for another hour writing a parody song before crashing at 4 AM.

9 AM Sunday morning, I finally dragged myself out of my bedroom. Right now, I was running on about 13 hours sleep, and was still bright and peppy, thank goodness for con highs. This day, I could really see the stress that some people had. I was very glad I was helping so much, I couldn't imagine what it would be like if they didn't get help. I do not know what the other panels were like, but listening to 'the makings of RivFur' was very interesting. A lot of work was involved in the creation of the con. Poor Jet. The rest of the day seemed to cool down a bit when B&, the band made specifically for RivFur came and played, as well as furry hypnosis. This was happening with a casino style games area in the back of the room while the stage had some stuff going on. Fun fun.

Then came the charity Auction. Unfortunately, I do not cope well with auctions, and within 10 minutes, even though I was busy helping with the money collection and identification and all the paperwork for the charity, I had to leave the auction. Apparently there were some really awesome things put out there and they raised $4250 for RSPCA

Following this was a final word of thanks, the super sponsor dinner and set up for the dead dog dance (Guess what I was actually present for, the setup only. ) As soon as the dance started, it was time for me to head home. I had a long drive back and work in the morning.

As a little prelude, I did get home fine, but not until 11 PM, then I had to sort some stuff I left unfinished at home. I didn't get to sleep until 3 AM again, and with the next few busy days I didn't really get any good sleep until Wednesday just past, with a huge 11 hour sleep. Boy, did I feel better.

All in all, I wish I could have done some more panel watching, but I was very happy to be on Con operations and manning the desk, and helping out so many people. That's what I love most about the con, what I could do to make a difference.

(Re:Post because why not?) Critter Constructive Criticism (RivFur.)‏

Hiya, thought you could do with some constructive criticism about RivFur.
Lets get the bad out of the way..

LowLight: Directions: There should be a map or even better a photo of where the events is being held i say this because foxtailedcritter (me), ozzyfox, Forgy and his roomate and many other got lost for hours and hours trying to find the nerf wars event after being told by staff it was to quote them "somewhere in Roma Street Parkland" not good.

Plus Louis, topher-the-tiger, Sly fox, snjester and others got lost alot too.

The Pancake Manor Dinner was a disappointment around 30 of us walked in to get dinner but we were all shocked When we were refused service because we had to book it. Now i know it was in the booklet saying we had to after reading it but even the rivfur staff did not know we had to book in and was shocked so it was canceled.

No one booked of course and was a massive loss due to not enough warning.

Safety: Club Hop was pretty unsafe due to the first aid volunteer left early, whats worse was when he left some of us did not know how to get back, alot of people ended up being left behind at clubs and i ended up spiked, wasted at the club in the city drunk on my paws laughing.

Thankfully i ran into tommietehkitteh and he helped me get back safe.

HighLight: The best event by far agreed by me and others was Furry Laser Tag Games it was great for the fursuits, social bugs, drinkers and all of us really. The UV lights light me up amazingly.

Notes:Just thought to note, nobody went to the unofficial bowling, imax 3D cinema and dream world. They were unpopular.

There was lots more that happened but won't bore anyone anymore.
Sincerely ~FoxTailedCritter {RivFur Feedback (Good and bad.)}
