Announcing FurWAG!

(This announcement was originally posted on Dec 17, 2012)

Hi furries,

I know that many of you expressed disappointed when it was announced that the Perthfur Gathering (PFG) - which had been planned for September this year - was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The PFG started in 2009 as a furry social experiment by our good friend JM Horse, who believed we had the numbers in Perth to host a large, public-invite event. When PFG1 attracted more than 75 attendees (including furs from interstate), the entire community took great pride in the event's success. The tradition continued for another 4 events over the next couple of years, once again attracting record attendance in 2011.

In recent months, there have been several departures from the organising committee for the PFG. Those of us remaining, with the help of some former committee members and a couple of new faces are currently working on an exciting, new furry event for Western Australian furries.

FurWAG will be a new, annual furry event taking place in Perth, starting in 2013. The event is still in the early stages of planning, but you may want to pencil us in for the second half of the year. (Don't worry, we don't intend to clash with any major Australian or international furry events!) We can't say too much at this early stage, but with our new name comes a new venue, new support and lots of exciting ideas! Our aim is to create an event that has the power to draw visitors from the far corners of the country, offering a unique experience to attract interstate furs, as well as remaining affordable for locals.

We are extremely excited about the possibilities for FurWAG! We have a passionate team of organisers and volunteers who represent the full gamut of the Western Australian furry community. Currently, the FurWAG committee consists of Darky, Vulpyra, Cyrin, Monkau, Kyras, Flye, Drackir, Jeddy and Pyrocloud. We draw upon experience from organising and attending other furry conventions and furmeets, and you can count on us to pool our enthusiasm and ambition into making FurWAG totally awesome.

We will be launching a website for FurWAG soon, as well as continuing to inform everyone via social media as planning unfolds. You can find us on:
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/FURWAG
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/furwag
Google+: http://gplus.to/FurWAG
FurAffinity: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/furwag/

And we're also establishing a presence on Perthfurs.net, OzFurs and Furstralia to answer any questions you might have for us.

In the meantime, we are still seeking volunteers to help make this event the very best that it can be. If you're located in Perth and you'd like to help, please send an e-mail to chairman@furwag.com.au

We look forward to keeping you up-to-date with all of the exciting news about FurWAG in the coming weeks and months!
