Animating help..?

Postby KaiTanuki » Wed Apr 11, 2012 1:59 am

I've recently taken a liking to animating small .gif files and I was wondering if I should move onto larger animations (such as animations lasting for 5 minutes or more.)

Here is my first ever .gif animation [this one kinda freaks me out]:

Here's an animated icon for deviantART that I had completed today:

Oh and since I draw with a mouse, it takes forever to make them. So should I consider purchasing a tablet?

If you think you can then why not, it will just take longer to make.

As for the tablet, I think they're awesome, I'm loving mine and I only just got it last week, if you can spare the cash I say go for it.

Cool then! ^^ I'll need to work on my patience a little more - I tend to rush on something if it has been going on for over a day >.<

Sounds nice! ^^

I would suggest you look at the size of the work you're doing. As someone who's doing pixel animation for a game, I'm working constantly with a mouse. If you can get the precision you need for pixel art to do animation, go for it. Otherwise, I would suggest sticking with a mouse until you need to move to something that needs the contours with a brush.

I recommend GIMP as my primary tool, and if you want to splice certain things together, I use Spriter Pro to do my animation of putting things together (backgrounds, multiple characters, separate animations, etc.)

If you want me to help at all, I'm very happy to do so.

Please note that all three are for other people and are NOT free to use without their permission. 1st and 2nd picture are commissions with permission to use for gallery. 3rd is animation for game.
