YouTube Vid - 2 Hamsters 1 Wheel

This vid is almost a year old but it's the first time I've seen it and I'm wondering if you guys have seen it before.

Horizontally positioned hamster wheel and one hamster running in it. Then another tries to compete with the first and there's mayhem. What exactly is the basis for the instinct that compells rodents to run on an object that takes them nowhere?

Bhahaaha,
I thought it was funny to see those two fulff balls spinning around and being goofy.

But I'm not quite sure why they do that..
