New year's resolutions 2014

Postby Wererstritchy » Sat Jan 04, 2014 12:19 am

Every year that comes around, we make some sort of resolve that we want to achieve something, but sometimes people go really far with elaborate ideas, or an extreme goal. Sometimes there are many goals, sometimes one. Sometimes they are aspirations or ambitions rather than an actual goal.
I tend to make goals about things I want to see progress, like 'do coloured art once a month', or to watch movies a certain amount of times a year, or even to just spend a certain amount of money.

in 2012, for example I had this list.New year's resolution 2012

January:
Move out

February:
Read 2 chapters of the bible.

March:
Enter a competition

April:
Play a proper April fool's joke

May:
Create a plot for Kaerwyn: http://www.kaerwyn.org

June:
Draw up a full digital detailed drawing

July:
24-Hour comic challenge --> http://www.24hourcomicsday.com/

August:
Spend $100 online

September:
Draw three pictures/comics to those I admire for their work

October :
Lose 20 kg (year goal)

November:
Write a novel for national November writing month

December:
Set out to go to a real Christmas party

I only achieved 6 goals of the 12, but it meant that I actually achieved some goals I set out to achieve!

My goals for this year are monthly based again, but this time, its the same goals every month.

One full colour picture finshed
One 10+ minute narration completed
One movie watched

I want to add more, but three things a month is a pretty good goal, one for every week, and one week off. I might try to put in a commission every month for next year, but will see how it pans out. I don't have anything in particular that I want to desperately achieve this year, as I've already got a lot of stuff planned from the previous year which is finally taking place.

What goals do people set, and what's your preferences in setting them?

Mine:

Greatly reduce the amount of sugar and fat I consume - especially to cease bying those sugary teas I drink too often.

Tidy up the apartment more often

Devote more time to practicing drawing & writing

Generally I set goals when I see room for improvement in myself. The start of a year is a good time to do so as it make measuring the goal much easier.

Do you just go 'I want to do this' as a goal, or do you then go and make plans to acheive the goal?

Mine is to get a job so i can finally get the money to meet my long distance girlfriend for the first time in America. I normally say "I want to do this" or something like that but don't make plans. This time though, I look for jobs almost everyday

Depends on the goal. If it's a willpower goal like avoiding the calories then I make a concerted effort.

If it's an active goal such as keeping the apartment clean then I make plans.

Being that we I am getting married, i would like to tone up at touch, eat healthier and lose some weight. This will also help with my job and make it a lot easier to do.
